Grammar note 语法点

喂 — answering the phone

喂 (wèi) starts a phone call, like English "hello?". It is only used on the phone, not for greeting people in person.

喂,妈妈,你好吗? — Hello, Mom, how are you?
……,好吗? — asking "okay?"

Add 好吗 after a suggestion to gently ask for agreement: 星期天回家吃饭,好吗?

星期天回家吃饭,好吗? — Come home for a meal on Sunday, okay?
