Grammar note 语法点
生病了 — expressing a change of state with 了
了 at the end of a sentence often shows a new situation has happened: 他生病了 = He has gotten sick (he wasn't sick before).
我的朋友生病了。 — My friend got sick.
给 + person + thing — giving something to someone
给 means 'to give.' The word order is subject + 给 + person + thing: 我给他水果 = I give him fruit.
我给他一些水果。 — I give him some fruit.
