比 — comparison

A 比 B + adjective compares two things: 我比以前快. 一天比一天好 means better day by day.

我跑得比以前快。— I run faster than before.
verb + 得 + adjective — degree complement

得 links a verb to how it is done: 跑得快 (run fast), 说得好 (speak well).

他跑得很快。— He runs very fast.
