At noon, my coworker and I went to have lunch together.

While eating, we chatted a bit about the company's new project.

还是 — 'or' in a question
还是 links two choices inside a question, e.g. 你想吃米饭还是面条?
你想吃米饭还是面条? — Would you like rice or noodles?
V + 了 + V — doing something briefly
Repeating a verb with 了 in between (聊了聊, 看了看) shows the action was brief or casual.
