Today, I have a headache, so I sit in a chair to rest.
朋友péngyou看见kànjiànwèn怎么zěnmele
Friend sees me, and asks: "What's wrong?"
shuō没事méishì休息xiūxi一下yíxiàjiùhǎole
I say: "It's nothing, I'll be fine after resting a bit."
晚上wǎnshang朋友péngyou打电话dǎ diànhuàgěishuō对不起duìbuqǐwàngle今天jīntiānshìde生日shēngrì
In the evening, my friend calls me and says: "Sorry, I forgot today is your birthday."

没事 answers a worried question like 你怎么了, telling someone nothing serious is wrong.

你怎么了?没事,休息一下就好了。— What's wrong? Nothing, I'll be fine after resting a bit.
没事(回应道歉:accepting an apology)

没事 also accepts an apology, meaning it's okay, no problem.

对不起,我忘了你的生日。没事,谢谢你打电话给我。— Sorry, I forgot your birthday. It's fine, thanks for calling.
